This blasting course teaches how to operate a drill rig safely and complete the duties of drilling blast holes in surface mining operations. The person will be able to conduct pre and post-inspections to ensure the performance of the drill rig. Our drill rig operator training is 80% practical and includes 20% theory and video lessons.

There are open surface drill rigs and underground rigs. Drilling rig types include rotary, percussion, down-the-hole, and top hammer.

Naming the parts and purpose of each part of a drill rig for correct operation.

Accessing the site and correctly positioning a drill rig relative to the drilling task. Explaining how a drill rig works, and how this affects the drill rig operation. 

Discussing drill rig safety and how it affects the drilling operation in the workplace. Explaining safety decal and warning devices

Using the daily checklist to check the drill rig for safe operation. Reporting any defects discovered during the daily checks.

Completing drill rig log books and check sheets accurately and correctly.

Operating a drill rig correctly and safely.

Correct selection of controls.

Measuring depth.

Correct shutdown and parking procedures.
